Do I have Sleep Apnea?

Sleep Apnea Diagnosis

If you are an Anchorage Alaska resident who suffers from sleep disturbances like snoring or sleep apnea, we may be able to help. Often sleep issues can be resolved with behavioral changes like diet and exercise, but if that is not enough, oral appliance therapy may be a solution for you. Many people don’t think about their dental office as a solution to sleep disturbance, but the doctors at Health Centered Dentistry know that a good night’s sleep is integral to your overall health.

How To Treat Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Treatment

Oral appliance therapy (OAT) is an effective treatment option for patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). An oral appliance is a small plastic device that fits in the mouth like a sports mouth guard or orthodontic retainer. Oral appliances help prevent the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues in the back of the throat, keeping the airway open during sleep. An oral appliance may be used alone or in combination with other treatments for sleep-related breathing disorders, such as weight management, surgery, or CPAP. The doctors at Health Centered Dentistry can make a custom appliance just for you. These custom appliances are proven to be much more effective than over the counter appliances.

Is Sleep Apnea Dangerous?

Sleep Apnea Symptoms

Sleep Apnea is a serious condition that can affect all aspects of your life. When you don’t get a good night’s rest, you may suffer from daytime sleepiness. This can result in anxiety, depression, or difficulty thinking. Untreated Sleep Apnea has also been linked to increased blood pressure and insulin resistance, which over time can lead to diabetes, heart attack, or stroke. If you are struggling to sleep, we would like to be part of the solution.

Our Oral Systemic Balance Therapy includes a comprehensive dental examination, combined with a thorough evaluation of the patient’s concerns, full mouth and cephalometric dental imaging, a thorough interview process, heart rate variability testing, pulse oximetry, postural analysis, and diagnostic dental casts.

Our doctors at Health Centered Dentistry work closely with Anchorage Sleep Center for diagnosis and treatment of Sleep Apnea.
