Root Canal Therapy
Painless Root Canal Procedures
Root Canal Dentistry
At Health Centered Dentistry, we do our best to maintain a patient's natural dentition. Sometimes due to decay or trauma, a root canal is required to save the tooth.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
The process of root canal therapy or RCT includes removing the tooth's nerve and cleansing the canals with an antibacterial liquid or gas, such as ozone or chlorahexadine. A special type of sealer is placed in the canal to reduce the chances of the tooth becoming infected again. A crown or filling is required to ensure the tooth remains strong following RCT.
Risks, Benefits, Alternatives
There is a growing concern about the long-term effects of RCT's on the body. Dentists and medical doctors are currently researching the effectiveness of a RCT in removing 100% of the bacteria that led to the need for a RCT in the first place.
At this time, the American Dental Academy and the American Association of Endodontics still stand behind RCT's and their effectiveness. We recognize that this is considered an elective treatment and alternate treatments are available. Our doctors are willing to discuss your concerns about the pros and cons of a root canal.
