Oral Cancer – The Silent Killer
April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month and Health Centered Dentistry is offering free oral cancer screenings to the Anchorage community for the entire month of April. Oral cancer is a silent, fast killer. There are approximately 50,000 cases of oral cancer diagnosed in the U.S. every year! Per the Oral Cancer Foundation:
“132 new people in the U.S. EVERY DAY will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer, and one person EVERY HOUR OF THE DAY… will die from it.”
Certain risk factors increase the likelihood of developing the disease including the following*:
Gender (oral cancer is twice as common in men as in women)
Age (average diagnosis for oral cancer is 62)
Tobacco use (80% of people with oral cancer use tobacco in the form of cigarettes, chewing tobacco or snuff)
*information available on Cancer Treatment Centers of America at www.cancercenter.com/oral-cancer
In the past two years, Health Centered Dentistry providers have found two cases that, through partnering with local professionals, were diagnosed as oral cancer. We know the value of oral cancer screenings and welcome any person, patient or non-patient, to visit us for a screening by the end of April.
At Health Centered Dentistry, we utilize the VELscope Vx System. This high tech tool allows your Anchorage dentist to use enhanced tissue fluorescence visualization to find spots on the oral mucosa that are invisible to the naked eye.
Be proactive about your health – your life depends on it. Call us at Health Centered Dentistry today to schedule your screening at 907.276.4537 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your Anchorage dentists – Dr. Clint Henrie, Dr. Greg Bragiel, and Dr. Kent Marchant – look forward to working together as your allies for health.
